A new update went live earlier today for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on the Playstation 4 platform (Xbox One and PC are expected to receive it a bit later). This update was put in place primarily to prep gamers for the arrival of the Awakening DLC pack, but also to address some issues with the game, balance weapons, tweak scorestreaks, add new features, and disable the double XP event.

Treyarch made the full patch notes for the update available online via the Activision Support website.

Here is the complete list of notes:

As you can see, this is a pretty big update. The main purpose, of course, is to give players access to the four brand new multiplayer maps and the new zombies map that come with Awakening. That content takes up a huge portion of this nearly 9.4 GB download.

There are TONS of small things that have been added or changed in Black Ops 3 with this patch too, however. Below we outline some of the biggest changes that were made.

Weapon Tuning

Various weapons were given stability buffs. Shotguns, for reasons we can’t explain, were actually buffed to be more powerful at range. Considering a lot of players already complain about how guns like the Argus are way too effective in medium to long range encounters, we’re not entirely sure why this weapon type was given a boost rather than a nerf.

Streak Tuning

Perhaps the best part of the buffs were those associated with scorestreaks. Players have long voiced their opinions that killstreaks feel abnormally weak in Black Ops 3. Apparently the development team actually listened. Streaks like the Cerberus, Hellstorm, and GI Unit were given significant boosts that should improve their performance in multiplayer matches.

Zombies

In zombies mode, a lot of tweaks were made. According to Treyarch, weapons have been balanced for the Shadows of Evil and The Giant maps, daily challenges have been added, the lightning effect on various weapons will now always work, an exploit that allowed players to get outside the play area on Shadows of Evil has been nixed, and another exploit (this one in The Giant) was patched so that players can’t exit the play area or get under the map.

Additionally, Dead Ops Arcade 2, the bonus mini-game, is available to all players via the main menu. On top of that, players can now use matchmaking to find others to play DOA2 with.
